Installing
The live session
Boot the ISO from a USB stick. There is no login screen: at the login:
prompt on the first console, log in as anon, password chimera (root
also has the password chimera; /etc/issue shows both). Sway or niri
starts by itself.
h77-welcome opens in a floating window. Its menu:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| About / keybinds | shows ~/README.md: the credentials and the main keys |
| Install hybrid-d77 to disk | runs doas h77-installer |
| Update hybrid-d77 packages | runs doas h77-update |
| Don’t show this again | stops it from opening at login |
To write the ISO to a USB stick from another Linux system (check the
device name with lsblk first; everything on it is erased):
sudo dd if=hybrid-d77-live-x86_64-DATE-sway.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress conv=fsync
With h77-installer
h77-installer is the tested way to install. Start it from h77-welcome or
from a terminal:
doas h77-installer
It first explains that partitioning is part of the installer, that a UEFI
machine needs a FAT32 EFI system partition (BIOS/MBR does not) and that the
target is mounted at /mnt. Then its menu goes through:
| Step | What it is |
|---|---|
| Source | local (the default) copies the live system, with its configuration; network installs from the Chimera repositories |
| Network | NetworkManager’s nmtui, needed only for a network source |
| Mirror | apk mirror, for a network source |
| Hostname | hybrid-d77 by default |
| Timezone, Keymap | time zone and console keymap |
| RootPassword | the root password |
| UserAccount | your user, its password and its groups (checklist: wheel, network, storage, audio, video, all on) |
| Partition | opens cfdisk on a disk |
| Filesystems | which partition is formatted how and mounted where |
| SystemRoot | the target, /mnt, set by Filesystems |
| Kernel | stable by default |
| Packages | extra packages to install |
| Bootloader | GRUB |
| Install | installs, then asks which services to enable (checklist: polkitd, networkmanager, seatd, rtkit, syslog-ng, all on) |
Partitioning and formatting are planned first and only carried out when you choose Install. The Settings button shows what has been chosen so far.
Use h77-installer, not chimera-installer directly: run on its own,
Chimera’s installer offers to download its latest upstream version, which
has none of hybrid-d77’s steps.
Only the local source has been tested end to end on real hardware. With the network source, the packages of the session are not added for you.
With Mocinha (experimental)
Mocinha is a graphical installer, still a work in progress. Open
Mocinha Installer from the launcher (fuzzel on Sway, Utumno on niri),
or run mocinha in a terminal; it asks for the password to get root.
On hybrid-d77 it copies the live system, needs a disk of at least 10 GB,
formats the root as ext4, uses a 512 MB EFI system partition at
/boot/efi and installs GRUB. Mocinha itself is left out of the installed
system.
After installing
Reboot, and log in with your user on the first console; the session starts
as in the live system. Your user can run commands as root with doas if it
is in the wheel group.
h77-welcome opens on every login until you choose Don’t show this
again; to open it later, run h77-welcome in a terminal. Then read the
page of your variant to learn its keys.
