Updating and installing software

hybrid-d77 has two kinds of packages: Chimera’s own, from the Chimera repositories, and hybrid-d77’s own (h77-*, utumno, qsd77, quickshell-h77), published on the project’s GitHub release. Each is updated with its own command. Both need root, through doas.

The system

As on any Chimera system, with apk:

doas apk update
doas apk upgrade

Installing and removing software:

apk search <name>
doas apk add <package>
doas apk del <package>

The main and user repositories are both enabled. The Chimera Linux documentation covers apk in detail.

hybrid-d77’s own packages

doas h77-update

It is also the Update hybrid-d77 packages item of h77-welcome. It downloads the latest release from GitHub, checks the files against their SHA256SUMS and upgrades the hybrid-d77 packages that are installed: a Sway installation never gets the niri packages, and the other way round. It needs an internet connection, curl and jq (both installed).

An update of h77-sway-dots or h77-niri-dots changes the files in /etc/skel, not the copies in your home; see Where things are configured.

Services

Services are managed by dinit. The installer enables polkitd, networkmanager, seatd, rtkit and syslog-ng; dbus and elogind enable themselves. For others:

dinitctl list # what is running
doas dinitctl enable <service> # start it now and at every boot
doas dinitctl disable <service>
